WHAT IS CATARACT

Cataract is an eye disease that causes the lens of the eye to lose its transparency. The lens gradually becomes cloudy and takes on a yellowish or greyish colour. The eye thus lacks sufficient light to form a sharp image with correct colour interpretation. Cataracts worsen over time and can lead to blindness if left untreated.

In most cases, cataracts occur due to the natural ageing of the lens of the eye, but they can also develop earlier in life. This happens, for example, with diabetes, rheumatism or excessive alcohol consumption. It can also occur as a result of trauma to the eye.

The most common symptoms of cataract are;
Deterioration of visual acuity,
Deterioration of contrast sensitivity,
Double and blurred vision,
Decreased colour vision.

HOW TO GET RID OF CATARACT
Surgery is the only treatment for cataract. Surgery tends to be the first option in the early stage of the disease, with the risk of more serious pre- and postoperative complications if delayed.

Cataract surgery is a relatively simple operation performed on millions of people each year. During surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a new, clear artificial lens. During operations, our experienced surgeons use a diamond blade that creates an incision about 2.2 mm wide at the edge of the cornea. Using an ultrasonic probe, they break the cloudy lens into small pieces, suction it out and then insert an artificial intraocular lens exactly according to the dioptre power calculated preoperatively. We use high-quality FDA-approved focal, multifocal or trifocal lenses made of inert materials with aspheric front surfaces, built-in UV filters and protection against the early onset of secondary cataract.

The surgery is suitable for anyone suffering from cataracts and has many benefits:

The surgery takes about 15 minutes and is painless – it is performed under local anaesthesia (in some cases, general anaesthesia can be applied according to the patient’s request).

The operation does not require hospitalisation, you can leave after the operation.

The recovery period is not long, you can return to your normal life in just a few days

The quality of vision stabilises within three to four weeks.

FOR WHOM THE OPERATION IS SUITABLE
Cataract surgery can be performed on the advice of an ophthalmologist. Before the operation, a pre-operative examination and examinations are performed, during which we determine the stage of your disease and how it affects your vision.
