FEMTOSECOND LASER
It is today’s fastest, most accurate and best femtolasic laser surgery. It corrects myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. The method combines laser treatment of the cornea using two types of laser – an excimer and femtosecond laser.
COURSE OF SURGERY
Your eye will be numbed with anaesthetic eye drops before the operation begins. The femtosecond laser creates a corneal lamella approximately 0.1 mm thin and the surgeon lifts it sideways.
• The excimer laser corrects the refractive error with high precision and efficiency.
• After removal of the refractive error, the surgeon puts the corneal lamella back.
• If necessary, the surgeon applies a protective contact lens on the cornea, under which the eye heals.
• We usually do not apply contact lenses because the eye is intact and the cornea is not damaged.
BENEFITS OF LASIK SURGERY:
– The operation is painless,
– It is performed with local anaesthesia
– Thanks to its low energy, the laser is more gentle on the cornea and prevents postoperative eye inflammation
– The operation takes about 30 minutes
– Short convalescence period
– Reduces the risk of adverse side effects such as dry eyes or impaired night vision
– Stabilised vision within 2-3 months after surgery.
FOR WHOM THE LASIK METHOD IS SUITABLE
Lasik surgery is suitable for all patients with myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia who meet the following requirements:
• Minimum age of 18 years and no serious infection or injury to the eye within the last year
• Sjogren’s syndrome, lupus and other autoimmune diseases such as
• No history of corneal herpes disease
• No excessive dry eye syndrome
• No corneal scarring
• Normal anatomical proportions around the eye and orbit
• Suitable for elderly patients under 40 years of age only if they have a refractive error that impairs long-distance vision
– All candidates should be informed of the risks and have realistic expectations of the results that can be achieved in the present case
– The surgery is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women. The patient’s suitability for surgery is assessed by the doctor after a comprehensive eye examination.
RISKS AND LIMITATIONS
Lasik reduces the likelihood of side effects, but may cause a temporary decrease in tear production. The postoperative complication is relieved by the application of artificial tears. A few days after the operation, patients should avoid contact sports, swimming, visiting the sauna or solarium.
In individual cases, it may lead to under-correction or, conversely, over-correction of the eye error. However, these deviations can be corrected within a few weeks after the operation under our lifetime guarantee.
