WHAT IS HYPEROPIA?

Farsightedness or hyperopia is a congenital and often inherited visual defect in which the patient sees very well at a distance, but objects up close remain blurred. Symptoms include intense eye strain when looking at objects at close range, headaches, red eyes, constant focusing on the image and often strabismus. About one third of the world’s population suffers from hyperopia.

At a young age, low levels of farsightedness show no significant symptoms, but over time vision deteriorates and more serious problems arise at about 40 years of age when symptoms of presbyopia also begin to appear. Higher degrees of hyperopia occur in childhood and are often associated with strabismus or amblyopia.

HOW TO GET RID OF HYPEROPIA
In the case of hyperopia, the image is formed behind the retina, so the plus power is corrected with prescription glasses or lenses with a convex shape, thanks to which a sharp image is formed on the retina. Intraocular and laser surgeries are for those who are not satisfied with this method of hyperopia correction.

Hyperopia is corrected by laser technology. Compared to older methods of surgery, hyperopia surgery has the following advantages:

It is fast, accurate, safe and comfortable,
It’ll only take 20 minutes,
Hyperopia surgery is painless and performed under local anaesthesia,
Provides fast recovery,
The risk of postoperative complications is very low,
Better vision a few hours after the operation.

Anyone over the age of 18 with a fixed refractive error for at least one year can have laser eye surgery. However, the suitability of the candidate for surgery is finally decided by the doctor.

For some patients, it is more convenient to correct hyperopia with an intraocular surgery by replacing their own lens with an artificial lens, according to the precisely calculated dioptric power. In patients over 45 years of age, it is possible to eliminate farsightedness combined with presbyopia through intraoperative surgery with multifocal artificial lens implantation. This method is also suitable for candidates with an error of more than +4 dioptres and patients with thin corneas.

Every candidate for hyperopia surgery must first undergo a preoperative examination. Thanks to this examination, our doctors can accurately diagnose the problem and recommend the most effective solution. The method of surgery also depends on the patient’s age, occupation, lifestyle and, of course, the presence of eye disorders.
